Our drive for building solutions comes from a lifelong passion for technology.
The word Uilix is actually the name of the person from a medieval Irish retelling of Homer's Odyssey. The title is "Merugud Uilix Maic Leirtis", which loosely translates to "The Journey of Uilix, Son of Leirtis".
The story matches much of what is in Homer's Odyssey, although Uilix (or Ulixes pulled from Latin) is known in the story for his love of learning languages of the world, as he loves to speak with the locals. We have the same love for technology, and the message of learning multiple software languages matches.
PronunciationWe pronounce Uilix as "You-il-ix" but in the retelling of the Odyssey it would be pronounced more like "oo-ee-LEE-ks"
UiliX was incorporated in 2019 by our founder David, a software engineer with a passion for technology. He started his love of technology at a young age with a 1999 Apple iMac. He then started his professional career in 2008 and has been involved in the tech industry ever since.
Over the years UiliX has grown and worked across different industries, from finance to embedded systems. We have done work for the Python Software Foundation in the USA, to working with charities in Switzerland. But most of our work has been in the finance industry in the UK.
In 2020 we filed a trademark for our brand with the UK Intellectual Property Office. This step was to not only protect the brand, but we want to show that we are serious about what we do. We believe in real results and taking steps to protect the brand shows we care about what we put our name to.
We think it's important to support our local software communities, especially those built around the tools we use. We're also passionate about opening the door to technology, helping curious minds and underserved communities gain the knowledge and skills they need to grow and thrive.
